[Chapter Four]
Same old questions ask over and over again, making them feeling a bit frustrated. And when the interview finally ended, a smile suddenly appeared on their faces, making the interviewer a little annoyed. But he understand.
After he left, they sat down together and Kevin started to explain what happened last night. While Kevin was talking, Nick just sat there and stared at him. Looking at his every emotion as he related the incident. Clearly, that fear was still written on his face. And the whole picture was so clear to Nick. 'He loves me.' "Nick, you better stay smelly the next time if you are too damn tired to take a bath." AJ laughed. "Nick?" "Huh, what? I... Err... Sorry..." he apologized and stared back at his can of coke on the table, a corner of his eye still lingering on Kevin. "Did you hear what I've said just now?" AJ asked. "Yah, I will. Thanks so much for the advice." Nick replied in a sarcastic tone, although he was not in the mood to. Kevin sensed a shiver running down his spine for no apparent reason. He knew that Nick was starring at him all the while just now and took small peeks at him when Nick looked away for a few seconds. 'Does he know?' Kevin silently asked himself. If Nick does not know about his feelings, then why would he be acting so weird? "Well, Howie and I gotta go shop. How about the rest of you?" AJ asked. "I'm going to Leighanne's house. We have something to discuss." Brian said. "I... Erm... I'm going scuba dive. Haven't did that in a long time." Nick said, stammering in his words. "I feel the same too. Can I join you?" Kevin asked. Nick felt himself jumped when Kevin asked him. But he felt himself jumped not only because he was surprised, but he was happy too. For the first time, Nick finally understood himself. But he was not sure about Kevin even after he had heard what he had said that night. And Nick also was not sure if he wanted things to be the way it was going to. "Sure, why not?" Nick replied. ... Kevin had arranged that the both of them went home first and get their scuba kits before meeting at the beach. But Nick told him that there was not a need to do that. "You'll find out why when we get there." Nick said. Kevin nodded his head and started his engine, speeding off to the beach with Nick in his jeep. When they got to the beach, Kevin followed Nick to a small house. He had no idea that Nick owned a house near a beach. It was a beautiful, two stories high house, painted in dark green which was Nick's favorite color. As they entered the house, Kevin was surprised to find that it was neatly tidied up and the place was quite fully furnished. "Nick, when did you get such a beautiful house?" Kevin inquired, still looking around the house. "Almost a year ago." Nick replied as he went to the storeroom to get the scuba kits out. "I should have told you guys about it but I just felt that this is my little own escape paradise and so I..." "Yah, I understand." Kevin said. "But you let me know now. I might spill on you," he continued. "I believed you wouldn't." Nick said. The trust that Nick had for Kevin was so real and it took Kevin by surprise from the way he said it. Brian always knew Nick's deepest secrets as they are best friends. In a way, Kevin thought that Nick would have treated him like a real scary guy who just bossed them around. And now, Kevin shared a secret between Nick and him only. He smiled to himself. "I never knew you were such a neat boy too. You were the messiest of us all in the group." Kevin joked. "But I had to, for the sake of this house. No one takes care of it except me, so I can't afford coming back to my paradise with dust flying in the air and spider webs all around." Nick took the kits and placed them on the dark green leather couch. "Err... Kev, you mind wearing my swim trunks?" "Nick. We have been friends and band mates for so many years and you think I mind that." he said, shaking his head. "Okay... Just thought you mind. You get yourself comfortable around here. I gotta go up and get it." Kevin nodded his head and Nick ran off to his room. He let out a snigger as Nick ran up to his room with his butt bouncing to the rhythm. "What a butt." Kevin said, smiling to himself. He decided that he had not get enough exploring Nick's house. He noticed something like a small garden behind a separated blur glass door, which was a distance from the kitchen and walked towards it. As he stood there, he tried to open the glass door like normal but only to realize that it was a sliding door. Feeling a bit silly, he laughed at himself. He slid the door open and was amazed by the view before him. There was a human size cage by the right hand side which was full of butterflies fluttering around in it and a small path in the middle. Towards his left, there was also a human size cage but oddly, only two white doves are found inside. "Nick owns this garden? Gosh, there must be some other things that we don't know about that boy." he said softly. "You're right. Too many." Nick whispered in his ear, making Kevin jumped. "Sweet Jesus, you need to scare the daylights out of me, huh?" "Sorry." he apologized. "Here is yours." "Speedo. And it's in tangerine too." Kevin smirked. "It's better to wear a brighter colored one when you're under the sea." he said, slightly blushing. "So how do you find this garden of mine?" Nick continued. "Pretty cool. But why is there only two doves inside this cage?" Kevin asked, pointing to his left. "My dad's friend gave this two doves to me. I wanted to buy a small cage for them and placed it in the garden but then, I figured that if the cage is larger, these two doves would have more space." "Oh." "As time went by, this two doves kind of signify my freedom, me and my other half." Nick said. "Mandy?" Kevin asked, gazing at him. "Strangely, no. I also don't know myself..." Nick's eyes drifted onto Kevin's gaze and their eyes locked. Nick shook himself out of the gaze and walked back into the house. "I'm going out first." Nick said and went out to the beach. Kevin was mesmerized at that brief moment when they just silently gazed into each other's eyes. It was beautiful silence filled with pure love. He had hoped that Nick would feel the same way as he did. How deep he hoped. [Author's Note: Okay, I admit. I got that tangerine speedo thing from the original song 'Tangerine Speedo' off the 'Charlie's Angels' soundtrack. I can't help it. I was typing away when the song came on and the DJs were making fun of it. So sue me.] |
